James Howard Kunstler has been a part of the New Urbanism movement for quite a while. He's one of the most interesting speakers to listen to on the subject of crappy urban design. He's also convinced that peak oil and climate change will force Americans to radically change the systemic structures of everyday life, like suburbia, transportation, the food economy, etc. If my stack of unread books weren't high enough already, I would add his Long Emergency or The Geography of Nowhere to my to-read list. But I'll get to them sometime soon.
